Nothing is known about Alonso Álvarez de Pineda’s early life. In fact, other than the last year of his life, he is completely unknown. In fact, his name does not appear in any period Spanish records, leading some to believe that perhaps Álvarez de Pineda was a non-Spanish exile, whose real name may never be uncovered.
